What linux distribution should I use?

(this post was retrieved, with the help of The Internet Archive, from my retired blog krap.pblogs.gr)

Several times I installed linux distributions on my desktop or laptop. I’ve tried Ubuntu 6.06, 6.10, Suse 9.2, Suse 10 but never seriously.

I indend to give it a shot after finishing my exams in a couple of days so I thought asking the blogosphere’s opinion.

Generally speaking I’d like to use a distribution that would combine usual, everyday tasks such as multimedia stuff (watch DVS’s, videos, listening to mp3) and so on and so forth and at the same time be able to have the appropriate developer tools (java, eclipse, a lamp server and so on and so forth).

Any suggestions?

There also two more things which torment me:

1. I’d like the distribution to be able to recognise most of my hardware (Acer Aspire 5600 aWLMI)

2. I’d like to be able to connect to the internet using my adsl modem (sagem fast 800)
